MCDONALD'S FRANCHISEES SUPPORTING FRONTLINE HEROS DURING COVID-19

MC-Thank-you-meal.png

We’ve been hearing stories across the world of how people are coming together to support one another as we all navigate COVID-19. .Throughout this time, businesses have also stepped in to do so whether it’s staying open for pick up and delivery, shipping items to those in need and more. We chatted with McDonald’s Franchisee who owns and operates a number of these restaurants, Tanya Lawrence, to see about their initiative that they are doing during this time. From now through May 5th, participating franchisees are providing Thank You Meals to frontline workers which include first responders, health care workers, etc. Here’s what you need to know.

ATHLEISURE MAG: Why is McDonald’s offering Thank You Meals from now through May 5th to first responders, health care workers and those on the frontlines?

TANYA LAWRENCE: McDonald’s has been inspired by the diligent work that our first responders and health care workers have been doing to keep our community safe and healthy during this time. So this is our way of showing gratitude to them for everything that they are doing.

AM: What was the decision behind deciding to offer this for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

TL: We saw a lot of owner/operators doing a lot of things in our different communities and we wanted to get together collectively as a country as a national brand and to be able to offer something to all of our first responders and health care workers.

AM: What McDonald’s locations are offering Thank You Meals and how many times can qualifying frontline guests obtain them?

TL: It’s all McDonald’s restaurants across the nation. Meals are available through our drive throughs or our front counters for pick up orders. It’s one meal per day - breakfast, lunch or dinner whatever time of day is convenient.

AM: What does a frontline guest need to present in order to obtain Thank You Meals?

TL: They just simply need to come in uniform or they can show and ID or badge. They will then get the meal free of charge.

AM: Prior to the Thank You Meal program and after the conclusion of it – how have the franchisees supported COVID efforts with first responders, health care workers and even those that are just living in their community.

TL: We have a lot of great franchisees and a great company where we have been delivering meals to hospitals, fire houses and police stations. We have been working with school districts to provide meals for kids that are underserved. We have been doing it from the beginning and we will continue to do it as long as needed.
