David Stella
David Stella's makeup philosophy begins with creating a flawless finish to the skin. Music is his inspiration, and he uses it with his love of colors found in nature to create everything from over-the-top editorial looks to soft, beautiful faces for the everyday woman.
David has always valued shape and color. Even when he was a child, travelling between his native Amsterdam and Curacao, he never colored clouds white or gray. He saw blues, violets, pinks, and a myriad of other shades. A swimmer and gymnast in his youth, David eventually became a dancer. It was during this time that he began to learn the Makeup craft. After becoming expert at transforming his own face into different characters, his co-performers began coming to him for makeup and advice. This eventually led him to professional beauty training. He excelled in his classes, and eventually became one of the school's prized instructors. It was at this time in 1999 that M.A.C. Cosmetics, upon seeing his obvious talent, brought him on board as one of the original artists to launch the line in the Netherlands. David's dynamic style and expert makeup application technique became well-known. He was soon promoted to the Senior Artist position for the entire Benelux (Belgium, The Netherlands, and Luxembourg) region.
Since then, David has worked directly with most of the top artists in the industry, and has traveled the world on teams for every major Fashion Week. He now keys shows in both Amsterdam and Belgium, and has a celebrity roster that includes Dita von Teese, Mary J Blige, Missy Elliot, Steven Tyler, Christina Aguilera, Kim Kardashian, and many others. David is regularly quoted both in magazines and on-air appearances worldwide, and his work has graced the covers of Dutch Avantgarde, Le Salon, Brown, and Glamsterdam.
